How to Play Creep on Gesture Synth

Radiohead · G major · 92 BPM · easy · 4 chords

Play it now

Creep is one of the easiest songs to play on Gestune, and one of the most rewarding. Radiohead put it on their debut album, Pablo Honey, and its chord loop is famous for a reason: it sounds big with almost no effort.

The whole song is one loop of four chords in G major: G, B, C and Cm. G and C are natural chords of the key, so you just hold up one finger or four fingers. The other two need a tilt. B is the third chord tilted right to make it major, and Cm is the fourth chord tilted left to make it minor. That last move, from C to Cm, is the sound most people recognize. Your fingers stay the same and only your wrist turns.

At 92 BPM with each chord held for two full bars, the changes are slow and calm. You have time to check the hand sign, set the tilt and settle before the next chord arrives. If tilting is new to you, read how hand signs and tilts work first, then loop the song in Follow mode.

How to practise it step by step

  1. 1

Open the song in the instrument

Press Play it now. The instrument loads Creep in G major and shows the target chord with its hand sign above the camera.

  2. 2

    Learn the chord shapes

You need 4 chords: I (G), III (B), IV (C), iv (Cm). III and iv are played by tilting the chord hand.

  3. 3

Go through it in Follow mode

Follow mode waits for you: each time you make the right chord it moves to the next one, so you can learn the order at your own speed.

Tips

  • The whole song loops the same four chords. Two of them are flipped: III is the third chord tilted right to make it major, and iv is the fourth chord tilted left to make it minor.
  • The IV → iv change is the signature moment — keep four fingers up and just tilt your hand left.
  • Each chord lasts two bars, so there is plenty of time to get the next shape ready.

Questions about this song

What key is Creep in?

This version by Radiohead is in G major at about 92 BPM. The instrument switches to that key automatically when you load the song, and you can change the key afterwards — the hand signs stay the same because they follow chord numbers, not note names.

How many chords does the song use?

4: G, B, C, Cm. That makes it a good first song.

Can I play it without a webcam?

Yes. Use number keys 1–7 for the chords (hold Shift to flip major/minor) or tap the on-screen chord pads. Practice mode works with every input.

Why do B and Cm need a tilt in Creep?

In G major, the third chord is naturally B minor and the fourth is C major. Creep uses B major and C minor instead, which come from outside the key. Tilting your chord hand right past about 20 degrees forces major, and tilting left forces minor. So B is three fingers tilted right, and Cm is four fingers tilted left.

Is Creep a good first song?

Yes. It has four chords in a single loop, each one lasts two bars, and the order never changes from start to finish. It's also a gentle way to learn tilting, since two of the four chords use it. Once Creep feels easy, try Let It Be for faster changes.

Why are there no sus chords or a separate bridge?

The recording has a few quick passing sus4 chords and a bridge with small variations. This version drops the passing chords and folds the bridge into the main loop, so you practice one clean four-chord pattern. The core chords, G, B, C and Cm, stay the same throughout.
